Operation and Control of Split-Parallel, Through-the- Road Hybrid Electric Vehicle With in-Wheel Motors

Abstract: A variant of the hybrid electric vehicle (HEV) is a split-axle, through-the-road parallel hybrid, which enables existing vehicles to be retrofitted into an HEV with minimal modification -achieved by placing electric motors in the hub of the otherwise non-driven wheels. The term 'through-the-road' (TTR) refers to the power coupling scheme between the internal combustion engine (ICE) and in-wheel motors (IWM), which is not through some mechanical device but through the vehicle itself, its wheels and the road on … Show more

“…The charging stations must be equipped in accordance with the environmental safety standards, and renewable and alternative energy sources (solar panels, wind turbines, etc.) must be used at the fullest degree as it is demonstrated in the sources [22][23][24][25][26]. That is why making research in the field of energy-saving technologies for urban bus transport with analysis of its main components is the key stage to choose the most optimal, in terms of ecology and economy, means of improving transport infrastructure.…”

“…The importance of aerodynamics to a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) is the determination of drag estimation to know the car's performance on the road against air resistance. It can be used to improve stability, noise and fuel consumption [1][2][3][4][5][6][7]. Many car makers formulate research and continue to develop the HEV models that are focused on higher propulsion efficiency in order to integrate the energy saving by reducing the rolling resistance of wheel and the drag by aerodynamically losses.…”

“…Based on these conditions, a new vehicle technology to reduce air pollution and fuel consumption is required. Many researchers and vehicle companies have developed some new vehicle technologies to decrease fuel consumption and air pollution, such as the electric vehicle [6][7][8][9][10] and hybrid electric vehicle [11][12][13]. However, Range Extended Electric Vehicle (REEV) [14][15][16][17][18] is the most suitable vehicle technology for the future as compared to electric vehicle and hybrid electric vehicle [19,20].…”
