Only lasers can be used for low level laser therapy

Abstract: The question of lasers' exclusivity, as well as the degree of influence of special properties of low-intensity laser illumination (LILI), such as coherence, polarity and monochromaticity, on the effectiveness of low level laser therapy (LLLT) continues to cause arguments. The study analyzes publications from 1973 to 2016, in which laser and conventional light sources are compared, and the following conclusions are drawn. First, there are a lot of publications with incorrect comparison or unfounded statements. S… Show more

“…In conclusion, we draw special attention to the fact that for LASMIK laser biorevitalization it is necessary to use only lasers in accordance with the well-known (in Russia) rules of low-level laser therapy procedures. 45 , 46 Unfortunately, we had to face with discrediting of the procedure for many times when incoherent light sources and/or unacceptable illumination parameters were used.…”

“…However, despite the diversity of available treatments, the VU healing process is difficult and prolonged. Therefore, laser therapy, specifically Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT), has been used as an adjuvant to conventional treatment to aid in wound tissue repair since it reduces the inflammatory process, favors recapillarization and neoformation of tissue layers, besides increasing collagen and elastic fibers in the healed area (13)(14)(15)(16) . In this perspective, some randomized studies show, through the evaluation of clinical indicators, tissue regeneration and reduction in the size of chronic lesions (vascular and diabetic) when using this type of adjuvant therapy to conventional treatment (17)(18)(19) .…”
