“…Therefore, we think that although our findings showed that the level of interobserver agreement in the diagnosis of dysplasia in CUC by TP is, at best, fair, and needs significant improvement, based on the criteria available at this time, we believe that the diagnostic consultation of these cases by dynamic TP is an acceptable alternative to traditional glass slide analysis. This statement is further supported by the results of other studies which have observed a high level of diagnostic accuracy with the use of either static or dynamic-based TP systems utilizing pathology material other than GI mucosal biopsies (2)(3)(4)(5)8,(19)(20)(21)(22). These studies have included the evaluation of inter-operative frozen sections, prostate needle biopsies, and pulmonary and neuropathology cases.…”

“…Viewing virtual slides over the Internet would circumvent such logistical issues and could increase the availability of immediate access to subspecialty pathology consultative services. 54 The ultrarapid virtual slide scanner may prove to be important for cancer clinical trials as well as the other clinical trials requiring pathology reviews. The practice of retrospective re-review of the surgical pathology slides upon which a diagnosis was initially established at a contributing institution, and which served as the basis for a protocol case assignment, may finally be replaced by a prospective review process.…”

“…Static image telepathology is an accessible technique that can also be used in developing countries. Newer and more time-consuming techniques like WSI and virtual microscopy are superior to static image pathology with a diagnostic accuracy between 91-100% compared to conventional light microscopy [Szymas et al, 2001;Kaplan et al, 2002;Leong et al, 2002;Li et al, 2008;Evans et al, 2009b;Pantanowitz et al, 2012;Campbell et al, 2014;Shah et al, 2016]. Diagnostic accuracy can be improved by experience in a subspecialty and electronic consultation [Williams et al, 2001].…”
