One-Side-Electrode-Type Fluidic-Based Capacitive Pressure Sensor

Abstract: This paper presents the development of a novel one-side-electrode-type fluidic-based capacitive pressure sensor. A pressure sensor using a one-side-electrode and an implementation of electrical double layer capacitance concept was proposed. Mechanical analysis of the membrane was carried out using the finite-element analysis in terms of deflection and Mises stress. A sensor with a circular membrane radius of 3.2 mm, membrane thickness of 0.8 mm, microchannel thickness of 0.5 mm, and microchannel width of 0.5 m… Show more

“…The dGECS was subjected to 0-0.5 mm displacement and capacitance change of 400 pF was observed. Sensitivity for the dGECS was observed to be 14.99 pF kPa −1 which is lower than that for wGECS but still better than reported values in literature [41,49].…”

“…It was found that when wGECS was subjected to 3-point bending test, a 0.5 mm deflection induced a strain of 4500με and corresponding change in capacitance was of the order of 300 nF (figure 11). The sensitivity of the sensor was calculated to be 11.24 nF kPa −1 which is higher than most reported values [29,30,49,50]. It was observed that, initial displacement from 0 to 0.1 mm showed very little change in capacitance.…”

“…Then, the tape will be peel off after the coating, then the top PDMS was will adjusted to bottom PDMS to ensure the position of the pattern. Then, the completed seal PDMS-PDMS was baked in an oven to strengthen the sealing process [32]. Four types of micromixer with different structures were designed and fabricated.…”

“…Many types of microfluidic labon-a-chip technologies use capacitance-based measurements, to detect droplets size and speed 20 , to infer their content in the case of simple mixtures 21 , but also to provide quantitative measurements in the context of biological materials including single cell analysis 22,23 . Some systems offer options in which electrodes contact fluid droplets directly, by measuring the double layer capacitance with two metal electrodes 24 or by evaluating the capacitance between a fluid channel and one metal electrode in its close vicinity with no electrical contact to the fluid 25 . More interestingly, non-contact measurements are possible with interdigitated electrode pairs 20,26 in optimized geometries 27 , as described in several examples in the literature [28][29][30] .…”
