On the Theory of Free Carrier Electro‐Magneto‐Optical Phenomena

Abstract: The nonlinear Boltzmann equation is discussed for nonspherical and nonparabolic energy bands assuming strong dc and weak ac electric fields. The current density is calculated in the limit of a quadratic deviation from Ohm's law. Freecarrier magneto‐optical phenomena in the presence of a strong dc electric field are discussed.

“…I n both papers mentioned the expression for the rotation of the polarization plane differs with respect to the components of the effective mass tensor. As is well known [3] the rotation of the polarization plane 8 and the ellipticity d of radiation passing through a sample (with refract)ive index n and extinction coefficient k ) in the presence of a magnetic field B parallel to the propagation direction n * are connected with the off-diagonal component of the complex conductivity tensor ~( w ) , which has to be calculated in the presence of an electric dc field taking the ellipsoidal constant energy sur faces into account.…”
