On the packet allocation of multi-band aggregation wireless networks

Abstract: Abstract-The use of heterogeneous networks with multiple radio access technologies (RATs) is a system concept that both academia and industry are studying. In such system, integrated use of available multiple RATs is essential to achieve beyond additive throughput and connectivity gains using multi-dimensional diversity. This paper considers an aggregation module called opportunistic multi-MAC aggregation (OMMA). It resides between the IP layer and the air interface protocol stacks, common to all RATs in the d… Show more

“…Some literature [25] has also presented a probability-split algorithm that minimizes delay in heterogeneous wireless networks. Some literature [26] proposes an optimal distribution scheme based on dynamic traffic allocation in heterogeneous wireless network environments. This scheme aims to minimize the queue delay while maximizing the probability of a packet arriving at a given delay constraint.…”

“…Load balance is an MH solution that aims at sending data over multiple connections in a fair distribution form, as either equal or unequal distributions [45]. Several techniques have been proposed to perform load balance of the application data, some of which have been focusing on distributing data traffic, others on multipath routing.…”

“…Utilization of unlicensed bands is added in [8]. In [9] [10], traffic load balancing in multiple Radio Access Technologies (RATs) has been investigated with utility functions. While aforementioned works were conducted to support QoS of different traffic types or offload cellular traffic, to the best of our knowledge, the issue of how to efficiently utilize multiple bands from heterogeneous networks, including WLANs for heterogeneous traffic UEs capable of aggregation, has not been fully scrutinized.…”
