Ocorrência de cepas de Pseudomonas aeruginosa multirresistentes produtoras de metalo-β-lactamase blaSPM-1 em amostras clínicas

Abstract: Ocorrência de cepas de ABSTRACTThis study analyzed the occurrence of metallo-b-lactamase genes in clinical samples of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from the Hospital São Vicente de Paulo, RS. The genes were analysed by PCR and the susceptibility profiles were studied by diffusion-disk. Forty six strains were analyzed and five strains were positive for bla SPM-1 gene.

“…30 Zavascki et al identified 86 MBL producing strains, 16.27% of which expressed the blaSPM gene, 33 and Graf et al also discovered the blaSPM gene in 13.51% strains that were only susceptible to polymyxin B. 34 Our data are in accordance with these studies regarding high prevalence of SPM among P. aeruginosa isolates. The results of Moosavian et al study on 122 imipenem resistant P. aeruginosa isolates showed that only 2 isolates (1.6%) contained blaVIM-2 gene, whereas none of them were positive for blaSPM-1.…”

“…This coincided with a higher incidence of bla SPM-1 than those found in previous studies conducted on a national scale (Sader et al 2004, Gräf et al 2008). Nevertheless, this high incidence of the bla SPM-1 gene decreased in the 2008/2009 isolates (Table), suggesting that carbapenemresistance mechanisms other than MBL must be present and are being spread in the hospital under study.…”

“…Currently, the increase in the number of isolates of P. aeruginosa with bla genes in intensive care units (ICUs) is a cause of serious concern 8 . Risk factors for nosocomial infections in this environment include exposure to highly invasive practices, such as mechanical ventilation, urinary catheters, intra-arterial and intravenous catheters and the use of antibiotics in large quantities 9 . All metallo-β-lactamases (MβLs) hydrolyze imipenem, but this ability varies considerably and the rate of hydrolysis may or may not be correlated with the level of bacterial resistance to carbapenems.…”
