Observation of magnetic interactions between localized 4f- and itinerant π-electrons in a single crystal of cationic bisphthalocyanine complexes containing diluted spin centres

Abstract: Magnetic f-π interactions between localized 4f-electrons and itinerant π-electrons have been observed in a single crystal of bisphthalocyaninato yttrium(iii)/terbium(iii) tetrafluoroborate ([PcYTb][BF]) by measuring electrical conductivity of the crystal in the presence of an external magnetic field.

“…The fully oxidized form, [TbPc 2 ]BF 4 , reported in 2017, has a crystal structure similar to 1. [45] However, since this complex was a simple ionic compound, it exhibits a certain degree of electrical conductivity via hopping, and it acts as an insulator at 40 K. This transition temperature is higher than the T B of [TbPc 2 ]BF 4 . This is why no interactions have been observed between delocalized conduction p electrons and localized f electrons.…”

“…On the other hand, in the range of 150–2.2 K, the conductivity decreased rapidly. The fully oxidized form, [TbPc 2 ]BF 4 , reported in 2017, has a crystal structure similar to 1 [45] .
