Show more

“…IkK "disconnects" the IkB protein (inhibitor of NF-κB) that is bound to the NF-κB nuclear transcription factor (κB nuclear factor) The IkB protein is responsible for activating genes for the transcription of several cytokines that have a role in SIRS (whether or not they are associated with infection). (20) This sequence, which ends with the release of NF-κB, determines the production and secretion of several proinflammatory cytokines, such as interleukins (IL-1, IL-2, IL-6, IL-8 and IL-12); TNF-α (tumor necrosis factor alpha) and TNF-β (tumor necrosis factor beta), which are considered crucial to the development of sepsis. It should be emphasized that some patients die early due to an intense systemic inflammatory reaction.…”

“…However, this condition presentes a few symptoms like muscle hypertonia, trismus, in addition to contractures and pain in the back and limbs (Brasil, 2019). Acute pancreatitis leads to nausea, vomiting and severe abdominal pain, which are the most common symptoms of this disease; it is highlighted that scorpionism itself can provoke such a picture (Carneiro & Siqueira-Batista, 2004;Sepðlveda et al, 2019). Organophosphate toxicity can manifest, clinically, in a similar way to injuries caused by scorpions; the distinction can be sought in terms of the possibility of exposure to such compounds (Vinhal & Soares, 2018).…”
