O cuidar na terminalidade da vida: escutando os familiares

Abstract

RESUMO Os cuidados paliativos propõem uma transformação na forma de cuidar da pessoa em sua terminalidade e, principalmente, da sua família, pois esta experiencia vicissitudes em diversas dimensões de sua existência. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi compreender os familiares em seu existir-no-mundo cuidando na terminalidade da vida. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa que utilizou a estratégia metodológica do estudo de múltiplos casos. As descrições provenientes da linguagem dos familiares foram analisadas à luz da fenomenologia existencial heideggeriana. O estudo foi realizado nos meses de junho e julho de 2010, com a participação de dois familiares que cuidaram ou cuidam de pessoas queridas em seu processo de morte/morrer. Ao desvelarmos os significados expressos pelos sujeitos, apreendemos que a dimensão do sofrimento associado ao câncer e à condição terminal gera nos familiares angústias, medos e ansiedades, suscitando, assim, a necessidade de desenvolver uma assistência que seja compatível com a condição vivenciada pelos familiares, e vá ao encontro dos preceitos dos cuidados paliativos.
