Nutrient Compositions and Total Polyphenol Contents of Selected Dried Fruits Available in Selangor, Malaysia

Abstract: Dried fruits contained higher amount of energy and nutrient density compared to the fresh ones. This study was conducted to determine and compare the content of nutrients and polyphenols in dried dates, raisin, apricot and fig. Dried fruit samples were bought from three different stores in Selangor and analyzed in triplicates. AOAC (1997) standard methods were used for proximate analyses. The total sugar and polyphenol contents were determined using Dubois and Folin-Ciocalteu methods, respectively. Highest moi… Show more

“…These fresh apricot TPC values were lower than those obtained by Akin et al, 20 Ali et al, 21 The UAE extraction showed very important losses of TPC for the apricot dough dried at 60 °C (155.68 mg of GAE/100 g DM of the losses of the TPC of the dough of apricot by contribution to the fresh apricot). These results were lower than those found by Khairuddin et al, 22 who gave a value of 354.61 (mg GAE/100 g) of dried apricot from the Malaysian region.…”

“…It is known to be one of the earliest fruits cultivated in history (Singh et al 2011). Ficus carica has been extensively studied for medicinal uses, which justifies its potential therapeutic value (Khairuddin et al 2017;Mawa et al 2013;Moniruzzaman et al 2017). A report done by Gilani et al (2008) showed that the fruit, root and leaves of Ficus carica are used in complementary medicine in different disorders such as spasm, respiratory disorders, inflammatory, gastrointestinal disorders and cardiovascular disorders.…”
