ABSTRACT. Developing a rearing technology requires the determination of the optimum stocking density. This study aimed to determine the best stocking density for Brycon orthotaenia juveniles grown in net cages, during the rearing phase. The research was conducted at the Experimental Farm of EPAMIG, in Felixlândia, Minas Gerais State, in the Três Marias Reservoir. 9,000 fingerlings were distributed into 12 net cages, 2 m 3 each, according to a completely randomized design with three replications and four different stocking densities (150, 300, 450, 600 fish m -3 ). Random samples were taken from each net cage, at the onset of the experiment and at 60 rearing days, to assess production parameters, specific growth rate and uniformity. We verified a positive linear relationship (p < 0.05) for final biomass (r 2 = 0.88), weight gain (r 2 = 0.87), productivity (r 2 = 0.86), apparent feed conversion (r 2 = 0.96) and economic viability (r 2 = 0.96). For survival (r 2 = 0.98), the relationship was negative (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences between treatments (p > 0.05) for growth parameters, uniformity and final weight. It can be concluded that the density of 300 fish m -3 is the most suitable, because it provides higher net revenue, survival, and a good feed conversion.Keywords: aquaculture, intensive system, survival, profitability, São Francisco river.Densidades de estocagem de juvenis de Brycon orthotaenia: parâmetros produtivos e benefícios econômicos em tanques-rede RESUMO. Para o desenvolvimento de uma tecnologia de cultivo é necessária a determinação da densidade de estocagem ideal. Objetivou-se determinar a melhor densidade de estocagem para juvenis de Brycon orthotaenia, cultivados em tanques-rede, durante a fase de recria. A pesquisa foi conduzida na Fazenda Experimental da Epamig, em Felixlândia, Estado de Minas Gerais, na represa de Três Marias. Foram utilizados 9.000 alevinos, distribuídos em 12 berçários com 2 m 3 em tanques-rede, seguindo o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com três repetições e quatro diferentes densidades de estocagem (150, 300, 450, 600 peixes m -3 ). Amostras aleatórias de cada tanque-rede foram coletadas para as avaliações, no início do experimento e aos 60 dias de cultivo. Foram estimados os parâmetros produtivos, índice de crescimento específico e uniformidade. Obteve-se uma relação linear positiva (p < 0,05) para biomassa final (r 2 = 0,88), ganho de peso da biomassa (r 2 = 0,87), produtividade (r 2 = 0,86), conversão alimentar aparente (r 2 = 0,96) e para viabilidade econômica (r 2 = 0,96). Para sobrevivência (r 2 = 0,98), a relação linear foi negativa (p < 0,05). Não houve diferença significativa entre os tratamentos (p > 0,05) para os parâmetros de crescimento, uniformidade e peso final. Conclui-se que a densidade de 300 peixes m -3 é a mais indicada, pois, proporciona maior receita líquida, sobrevivência e boa conversão alimentar.Palavras-chave: aquicultura, sistema intensivo, sobrevivência, rentabilidade, rio São Francisco.

RESUMO.-[Efeito imunomodulador da β-glucana usada como aditivo alimentar em jundiás (Rhamdia quelen).]O uso da β-glucana como suplemento alimentar foi avaliado em jundiás. A β-glucana foi adicionada à ração na proporção de 0.01%, e 0.1% e fornecida aos peixes por 21, para avaliar dados hematológicos e parâmetros do sistema imune natural, ou 42 dias, para avaliar ganho de peso e resistência ao desafio com Aeromonas hydrophila. A adição da β-glucana na dieta não afetou o ganho de peso e não induziu alterações hematológicas nem alterações nos níveis de aglutininas e mieloperoxidase sanguínea. No entanto, a atividade hemolítica natural do sistema do complemento foi significativamente maior nos peixes alimentados com β-glucana. Além disso, nos peixes alimentados com β-glucana e desafiados com A. hydrophila, o número de bactérias isoladas do sangue foi significativamente menor, e a sobrevivência ao desafio foi significativamente maior do que nos peixes que não receberam β-glucana. Consequentemente, concluímos que a β-glucana tem potencial imunomodulador quando adicionada à dieta, nas condições experimentais aqui indicadas, e contribui para aumentar imunidade natural e a resistência dos jundiás ao desafio com patógenos específicos. INTRODUCTIONThe occurrence of infectious diseases is one of the major causes of losses in modern aquaculture (Sitjà-Bobadilla The immunomodulatory effects of dietary β-glucan were evaluated in silver catfish. β-glucan was added to the diet (0.01%, and 0.1%) and fed to the fish for 21 days, to evaluate effects on blood and some innate immune parameter, or fed for 42 days, to evaluate growth rate and resistance to challenge with pathogenic Aeromonas hydrophila. We found that adding β-glucan to the diet had no effect on fish growth and no effect on blood cells, or serum bacterial agglutination and serum myeloperoxidase activity. However, fish that received β-glucan in the diet had the natural hemolytic activity of complement significantly higher compared to control fish. Furthermore, fish fed with β-glucan and challenged with A. hydrophila had fewer bacteria in blood and presented a significantly higher survival rate compared to control fish. ResumoOs ácidos algínicos são extraídos de algas marinhas e quando utilizados na dieta dos peixes podem induzir respostas imunomoduladoras e imunoestimulantes. AbstractThe alginic acid is extracted from seaweed and when used in fish ration may induce immunomodulatory and immunostimulants responses. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of alginic acid incorporated in the ration on performance and handling of juvenile Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus. The first phase of the experiment occurred in two excavated ponds earth. 57,000 juveniles were used for Nile tilapia, local strains with the average weight of 14 grams. The juvenile Nile tilapia received the experimental diet treated with ergosan at a dose of 1% of the diet. The survival rate of fish and feed conversion in the experimental Nile tilapia was higher than the control Nile tilapia. In the second stage 54,126 juveniles with average weight 40.63 grams, were used. These fish were transferred to 16 fish cages. There were no significant differences in mortality rate between treatments. The highest mortality occurred between the third and seventh days after the handling. The data confirm that the transfer of juvenile Nile tilapia in the ponds to fish cages is a strong stressor.
