1,3-Cyclopentanedionea Prized ReagentA convenient and reproducible three-step synthesis, starting from norbornene, gives I,3-cyclopentanedione (6) in excellent purity and 70% overall yield.1,3-Cyclopentandion (6) ist in neuerer Zeit ZLI einem wichtigen Ausgangsprodukt fur Synthesen in den verschiedensten Gebieten geworden ' 'I. 1952 wurde es als Abbauprodukt von Aureomycin nachgewie~en~). O b oh1 im Handel erhaltlich, stehen einer breiteren Verwendung von 6 der hohe Preis sowie wenig geeignete oder ungenugend reproduzierbare Darstellungsmethoden entgegen. Nach kritischer Zusammenstellung der bisherigen Methoden wird eine neue Synthese angegeben.Die erste Darstellung ') aus P-Ketoadipinsaure-ethylester iiber eine Dieckmann-Cyclisierung ergab nur 7.5% 6. Die Cyclisierung von Lavulinsaure-ethylester mit tert. Alkoholaten (Ausb. 10 -60%) unter den Bedingungen konstant hoher Verdiinnung wurde erst kiirzlich 6 , veroffentlicht, diirfte aber ebenfalls nicht als optimal anzusehen sein 'I.Alle Zweikomponentencyclisierungen gehen auf die grundlegende Arbeit von Sieglitz und Horn zuriick, die unter Friedel-Crafts-Bedingungen Vinylacetat mit Carbonsaurechloriden zu 2-Formyl-1,3-diketonen bzw. direkt zu den 1,3-Diketonen kondensierten. Bei Verwendung von Bernsteinsauredichlorid erhielten sie dabei in 0.2% Ausbeute 2-Acetyl-1,3-cyclopentandion, das sie nicht mehr in 6 umzuwandeln versuchten. Dieser Weg wurde mit Variationen sowohl fur die Herstellung von 6 als auch substituierten 1,3-Cyclopentandionen 91 benutzt. Nilsson und MerPnyi ''I ersetzten das Vinylacetat durch Isopropenylacetat und verwendeten neben dem Saurechlorid auch Bernsteinsaureanhydrid. Leider erwies sich diese Methode jedoch im Hinblick auf Reproduzierbarkeit und Ausbeuten als nicht sehr zuverlassig I 'I.
