Novel Hybrid Content Synchronization Scheme for Augmented Broadcasting Services

Abstract: As a new hybrid broadcasting service, augmented broadcasting shows enhanced broadcasting content on a large TV screen, while augmented reality (AR) on a mobile device augments additional graphical content onto an input image from the device's own camera to provide useful and convenient information for users. A one‐sided broadcasting service using AR has already been attempted in virtual advertisements during sport broadcasts. However, because its augmentation is preprocessed before the video image is transmitt… Show more

“…The Hawk-Eye system is the most recognized example of AR systems that is no longer limited to electronic line-calling feature, and has been extended to be used for coaching tennis or cricket. Therefore, augmented broadcasting technology allows viewers to see relevant content and match information (S. Kim, Choi, Jeong, Hong, & Kim, 2014). In this line, Monji-Azad, Kasaei, and Eftekhari-Moghadam (2014) proposed an AR method for adding information to sports scenes from a single moving camera.…”

“…The main algorithm comes from the non-concurrent transmission of a sync signal to every slave for display using a predictive scheme, and the optimal framework to be synchronized among the frames. On the master side, all signals from the slaves to the master, and the master itself, are updated for generation of the linear prediction model for the display time of each terminal including the master, and the optimal sending time for a sync signal to be used for a display is determined through (12).…”
