Novel edaravone-based azo dyes: efficient synthesis, characterization, antibacterial activity, DFT calculations and comprehensive investigation of the solvent effect on the absorption spectra

Abstract: The present study deals with designing and synthesizing novel dyes using the drug combination of edaravone and azo compounds which can be used as an indicator for anions and cations.

“…To better understand the optical character of PICS and the effect of its interaction with Ag + , density functional theory (DFT) calculations at the B3LYP/6-311++G(d,p) level were used. [37][38][39][40][41] Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were used in the work and all computations were performed with the Gaussian 09 program package. 42 It's worth noting that for all of the optimized structures, the frequency calculations also were carried out to that the obtained geometries are true minima.…”

“…e absorption spectra of 10 −4 M CPAT dye (Figure 6) have been recorded in four solvents having different polarities at ambient temperature. e CPAT dye in different solvents proved red shift with hyperchromic effect under decreasing the polarity from methanol, ethanol, and DMSO to acetone which let to use it as solvatochromic probe [2,33,34]. e CPAT dye exhibited clear absorbance shifts (hypochromic or hyperchromic) which can project a good idea of the interaction pattern between the solvent and dye (solute).…”

“…Additionally, heteroaryl-based azo dyes have been studied for their potential biological applications, such as antioxidant [22][23][24] , antimicrobial [25][26][27][28] , antitumor 29 , antidiabetics 30, and antiviral activities 31 . A diazonium salt, created when a primary amine acts as an electrophile 32 , was typically coupled with a nucleophilic coupling component, such as an amine or phenol, to create an azo dye 33 . Compared to simple aromatic compounds, these azo dye compounds create a wide range of colors over the visible spectrum because the heterocyclic azo dyes have a substantial bathochromic impact 34 .…”
