Nonlinear organic plasmonics: Applications to optical control of Coulomb blocking in nanojunctions

Abstract: Purely organic materials with negative and near-zero dielectric permittivity can be easily fabricated. Here, we develop a theory of nonlinear non-steady-state organic plasmonics with strong laser pulses that enable us to obtain near-zero dielectric permittivity during a short time. Our consideration is based on the model of the interaction of strong (phase modulated) laser pulse with organic molecules developed by one of the authors before, extended to the dipole-dipole intermolecular interactions in the conde… Show more

“…( 8), self-energy Σ 21 (t) = pρ 21 (α, t) results in the frequency shift of spectra "−p∆n" without changing the line shapes. 12 One can show that this approach correctly describes the change of the first moment of optical spectra in the condensed matter. Calculations of p for isotropic medium give p = 4π 3 |D 12 | 2 N > 0 12,24,30 that corresponds to a red shift, according to the Clausius-Mossotti Lorentz-Lorentz (CMLL) mechanism.…”

“…12 Such interactions can compensate Coulomb repulsions in the wire for particular conditions. [12][13][14] And even the dramatic laser-induced change of the dielectric permittivity of dyes may be realized 12,15 that can enable us to control their "plasmonic" properties.…”

“…The analysis shows that it is possible to realize a bistable dependence of populations of levels on laser intensity in the case of dense medium at the blue side of the absorption spectrum [41]. Therefore it is natural to expect existence of switching waves in organic films of sufficient size.…”
