Nonisothermal crystallization kinetics, morphology, and tensile properties of polyphenylene sulfide/functionalized graphite nanoplatelets composites

Abstract: Polyphenylene sulfide (PPS)/graphite nanoplates (GNPs) nanocomposites were manufactured by simple melt compounding. The GNPs were first functionalized using synthesized benzimidazolium salt to improve the compatibility with PPS matrix. The functionalized GNPs showed an exfoliated dispersion in PPS matrix, which also could significantly improve the tensile properties of composites. Differential scanning calorimetry was used to investigate the nonisothermal crystallization kinetics of PPS/functionalized GNPs com… Show more

“…In contrast, the fracture surface of PPS3 is rough and there is no obvious agglomeration phenomenon, which indicates GQDs have uniform dispersibility and good interface compatibility in the PPS matrix. [51] The mechanical properties of PPS/GQDs nanocomposites are closely related to the dispersion of GQDs. When the content of GQDs is low, as a nucleating agent, PPS molecules crystallize around GQDs to form a strong interface.…”

“…Large amounts of aggregates block the motion of HDPE molecular chains, resulting in a decrease of crystallinity, similar results in literature. 42 However, HEI samples show the opposite trend to HE samples. When EG loading is 9 wt.%, the X c of HEI samples reaches the highest value ($ 64.6%), indicating that dispersive GNPs act as heterogeneous nucleation agents to promote the crystallization of HDPE.…”

“…Although the physical, thermal and mechanical properties of PPS are widely investigated, 1–27 very few of PPS can directly be used as plastic products 28–34 . In order to improve the physical, thermal, and mechanical properties, PPS composites reinforced by fiber 14,35–43 or filled by mineral filler 44–59 have been developed. Glass fiber reinforced PPS (GF/PPS) composites are the most successful commercialization type among all kind of modified PPS materials and are widely used in aerospace, automobiles, electronics, chemical machinery due to its excellent mechanical properties, heat resistance, flame retardancy, chemical resistance and attractive cost benefit.…”
