Regardless of age, sex and skin type, skin tightening is a common procedure requested by patients seeking cosmetic treatments to improve facial contours and skin laxity. Radiofrequency has been proven to penetrate deeper than optical light sources independent of skin color and to be beneficial for skin tightening. I previously reported on the efficacy of multisource phase-controlled radiofrequency treatment and noninsulated microneedle radiofrequency applicator with fractionated pulse mode. The evaluation process was both subjective and objective; I evaluated objectively using threedimensional color schematic representation with quantitative volume measurements. These three-dimensional results showed significant improvement after the treatments. The post-treatment volume was drastically reduced as compared to the pretreatment volume. Most of the patients reported satisfaction with the improvement of skin laxity. The advantages of these multisource phase-controlled radiofrequency treatments are their long-lasting high efficacy of tightening effects, and the reduction of discomfort and side effects. These characteristics facilitate repeated treatments as well as provide safe and effective treatment of skin tightening.

Summary Background Skincare cosmeceutical products have been shown to address intrinsic and extrinsic skin aging. Radiofrequency (RF) with microneedling is effective and safe in improving skin laxity and texture. Pairing skincare cosmeceutical products pre‐ and post‐procedure is beneficial as it enhances patient results, patient results, patient experience, and reduces patient downtime. Objective To evaluate the tolerability, safety, and efficacy of a multi‐ingredient anti‐aging facial moisturizer when applied pre‐ and post‐procedure consisting of a single RF microneedling treatment. Method Fifteen female patients, aged 37‐60, Fitzpatrick skin types I‐IV, with mild‐to‐moderate wrinkles were included in the study. Patients applied a multi‐ingredient anti‐aging facial moisturizer twice a day (morning and night) two weeks prior to RF microneedling and four weeks post‐RF microneedling (twice a day). At each time point, investigator objective assessment, self‐assessments, and clinical photography were taken. Result There were no adverse events as evaluated by the investigator. For this combined treatment and procedure patient scored comfort as the highest for satisfaction. Tolerability parameters erythema and edema were reported after RF microneedling treatment and were significant compared to the pre‐procedure timepoint. Eighty percent of patients showed an improvement in Glogau Wrinkle Scale, but improvement was not statistically significant between baseline and end of study. Improvements in all skin attributes (radiance, tone, smoothness, texture, redness, dryness, and overall appearance) were statistically significant at the end of the study. Self‐perceived skin attribute improvements included overall improvement, brightness, texture, pigmentation, redness, and tightness. The combination of the anti‐aging facial moisturizer and RF microneedling was recommended by the patients in this study. Conclusion This clinical study positively supports the hypothesis that combining the multi‐ingredient anti‐aging facial moisturizer pre‐ and post‐RF microneedling was safe and tolerable for the patients.

Most of drug entities face the problems like reduced absorption, faster metabolism and elimination, toxicity because of drug distribution to other tissues, low drug solubility, unpredictable bioavailability, etc. These issues need to be work out so as to make the novel drug delivery systems for successful therapy. Use of nanotechnology is one of the promising strategies to overcome all of these problems. Distinctive properties of nanomaterials like smaller particles size, high surface area, and ease of suspending in liquids, deeper access across the cells and organelles, flexib le optical and magnetic properties are offered by nanoparticles as compared to other micro or macro sized particles. Nanomaterials can be classified into different categories based on their drug delivery system, dimensions, structure and consistency. Various types of nano-formulations (such as nanoparticles, nano-suspension, liposomes, hydrogels, solid lipid nanoparticles, dendrimers, microneedles, ocular insert/disk, transcorneal iontophoresis) have been used by the researchers for modulating the physicochemical properties and biological activities of the drugs. This review highlights the various types of nanomaterials with their advantages and applications in the pharmaceuticals for enhanced physicochemical properties and better biological activities with reduced toxicity and higher biocompatibility .
