Nocardioides gilvus sp. nov., isolated from Namtso Lake

Abstract: A Gram-stain positive, facultatively anaerobic, non-motile and rod to coccoid-shaped bacterium, designated XZ17(T), was isolated from Namtso Lake of Tibet, China. Strain XZ17(T) grew optimally at pH 8.0-9.0, at 30-33 °C and in the presence of 0-1.0 % (w/v) NaCl. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences demonstrated that strain XZ17(T) belongs to the genus Nocardioides in the family Nocardioidaceae. Strain XZ17(T) shared pairwise 16S rRNA gene sequence similarities of 97.2, 96.8, 96.5, 96.4 and <9… Show more

“…The genus Nocardioides , which belongs to the family Nocardioidaceae in the order Actinomycetales of the class Actinobacteria was proposed by Prauser [1] for Gram-positive, non-acid-fast, aerobic and mesophilic nocardioform actinomycetes, developing mycelia that fragment into irregular rod- to coccus-like elements [2]. At the time of writing (January 2020), the genus Nocardioides comprises 111 recognized species (www.bacterio.net/nocardioides.html), which have been recovered from a wide variety of habitats such as desert soil [3], plants [4], animals [5], sea- and fresh water [6], saltern [7], volcanic ash [8], indoor air [9], glacier cryoconite [10] and polluted environments [11]. The chemotaxonomic features are a quinone system with the major menaquinone MK-8(H 4 ) and cell-wall peptidoglycan containing ll -diaminopimelic acid.…”

“…net/ identify) [18]. Strains dk3136 T and dk3543 were identical (99.8 %) in their 16S rRNA gene sequences and showed a high similarity to Nocardioides solisilvae Ka25 T (97.9 %) [19], Nocardioides gilvus XZ17 T (97.7 %) [11], Nocardioides houyundeii 78 T (97.6 %) [13], Nocardioides daphniae D287 T (97.5 %) [12], Nocardioides yefusunii HY056 T (97.5 %) [20] and other species of the genus Nocardioides (<97.4 %), indicating that they are very likely to represent a novel species of the genus Nocardioides [21]. “…net/ nocardioides. html), which have been isolated from various sources, such as soil [2][3][4][5], seawater [6], desert [7], plants [8][9][10], lake [11] and animals [12]. In our previous studies, several novel species of the order Actinomycetales have been isolated from wild animals (Tibetan antelope, vultures and plateau pika) from the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, including Nocardioides houyundeii [13], Actinomyces gaoshouyii [14], Actinomyces tangfeifanii [15] and Actinomyces vulturis [16].…”
