New Shoot-Through Control Methods for qZSI-Based DC/DC Converters

Abstract: Shoot-through control methods for qZSI-based dc/dc converters are presented and studied. The major goal was to increase efficiency. A new modulation technique, pulse width modulation (PWM) with shifted shoot-through, is compared with the conventional PWM shoot-through control method. The new method reduces switching frequency of bottom side transistors and inherently features partial soft switching. Previous studies have shown that the biggest drawback of PWM control with shoot-through is unequal switching fre… Show more

“…Similar to the baseline qZSC topology, the qZSSRC has two main operating modes: normal (or non-shoot-through) and boost (or shoot-through) mode [24]- [27]. The resulting advantage of the qZSSRC over the qZSC is soft-switching operation.…”

“…If the input voltage drops below the nominal level, the converter starts to operate in the boost mode similarly to the traditional qZSC and the output voltage is controlled by the variation of the shoot-through duty cycle D ST [27]. The switching frequency of the inverter switches f SW in the boost mode remains fixed to the resonant frequency f r .…”

“…The calculation of the parameters of passive components of the quasi Z-source inverter without energy storage is analyzed in many papers, for example, in [15][16][17][18]. The difference from traditional qZSI in parameter calculation is that voltage ripple on the capacitors must be lower to limit battery power pulsations, it means that passive component values must be higher that in traditional qZSI.…”

“…This method allows achieving soft switching without additional components, which increases efficiency of the converter. Several new PWM control methods such as shifted shoot-through control and swapped PWM control have been proposed recently, which allow to improve the performance even more [5].…”
