New Insecticides With Ecdysteroidal and Juvenile Hormone Activity

Abstract: Agrochemical research over the last two decades has resulted in the discovery of chemically novel insecticides that mimic the action of the two insect growth and developmental hormones, the steroidal 20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and the sesquiterpenoid juvenile hormone (JH). Bisacylhydrazines are non-steroidal agonists of 20E and exhibit their insecticidal activity via interaction with the ecdysteroid receptor proteins. Interestingly, two of the bisacylhydrazine (tebufenozide and RH-2485) insecticides are very sel… Show more

“…Flufenoxurom e diflubenzurom são inseticidas reguladores de crescimento do grupo das benzoilfeniluréias que inibem a síntese de quitina (REYNOLDS, 1987). Metoxifenozido, outro inseticida regulador de crescimento, é um agonista de ecdisteroide do grupo das diacilhidrazinas e provoca uma aceleração no processo da ecdise (DHADIALLA et al, 1998 Larvas e pupas de T. remus, quando tratadas com bifentrina 5g. i.a.…”

“…Tebufenozide, methoxyfenozide and chromafenozide are commercialized member of the novel group of diacylhydrazine insect growth regulators. 6 From the synthetic point of view, hydrazones are important synthones for several transformations and their synthesis from various precursors is well documented. 7 Various long chain acids and esters are reported as semiochemicals of egg origin that affect the ovipositional behavior of the mosquito Aedes aegypti, 8 which is a vector of dengue, chikungunya and yellow fever.…”

“…2,3) Some DBHs such as tebufenozide ( 6) and halofenozide ( Fig. 1: X n ϭH, Y n ϭ4-Cl) 7) are available on the market to control lepidopteran and other pest insects. Since these compounds target the molting and metamorphosis of insects, they are considered harmless to vertebrates.…”
