New Hydrazones Bearing Thiazole Scaffold: Synthesis, Characterization, Antimicrobial, and Antioxidant Investigation

Abstract: New series of hydrazones 5-18 were synthesized, in good yields, by reacting 4-methyl-2-(4-(trifluoromethyl)phenyl)thiazole-5-carbohydrazide with differently substituted benzaldehyde. The resulting compounds were characterized via elemental analysis, physico-chemical and spectral data. An antimicrobial screening was done, using Gram (+), Gram (−) bacteria and one fungal strain. Tested molecules displayed moderate-to-good growth inhibition activity. 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazide assay was used to test the antio… Show more

“…A DPPH methanolic solution (200 μL, 0.1 g/L) was mixed with a methanolic solution of one of the tested compounds 1 – 6 as follows 1 (1.6 μg/mL), 2 (1.8 μg/mL), 3 (1.9 μg/mL), 4 (2 μg/mL), 5 (2 μg/mL), and 6 (2.4 μg/mL) and then each sample volume was adjusted up to 10 mL with methanol. The absorbance was measured at 517 nm after the samples were incubated for 30 min at 40 °C [ 24 ].…”

“…Therefore, there is a need of innovation and development of newer chemical structures having both anticancer and antimicrobial properties . In recent literature, some carbohydrazides have been reported as anticancer, antimicrobial, antioxidant, antitubercular, anti‐inflammatory and analgesic agents. Hydrazonyl pharmacophore is associated with profound biological activities, viz anthelmintic and antimicrobial, cyclooxygenase inhibitor, antioxidant, anti‐HIV, and antitubercular .…”

“…Several N-aroylhydrazones derived from aryl-and heteroaryl hydrazides are emerging in the literature as potential antibacterial agents with wide spectra of activity against both Gram-(+) and Gram-(-) bacteria (Vicini et al 2002;Gürkök et al 2009;Moldovan et al 2011;Xavier et al 2012;Pieckzonka et al 2013;Qing Ge et al 2014;Kaplancıklı et al 2014;Morjan et al 2014;Nastasa et al 2015;Tatar et al 2016;). Some of these derivatives have also been reported to have an inhibitory effect on fungi, especially on Candida species (Vicini et al 2002;Gürkök et al 2009;Xavier et al 2012;Kaplancıklı et al 2014;Nastasa et al 2015). In an early report, Backes et al identified a series of N'-(2-hydroxybenzylidene) benzohydrazides with potent antifungal activity against two human pathogenic species, Candida albicans and Candida glabrata, at low µM concentrations (Backes et al 2014).…”
