“…In general, the thinner the section the better are the detail and resolution of the image because the structures are less likely to be hidden by constituent overlap within the section thickness (Kushida et al, 1975;Bennett et al, 1976;Nagato et al, 1981;Rieder and Bowser, 1983). Thus, structural details that are not apparent in sections of greater than 2.0 im in thickness may be visible in thinner sections.…”

“…Quetol 523 is a light-colored, flexible, water-miscible methacrylate (methoxy polyethylene glycol 400 methacrylate). It becomes an integral part of the polymerized system and avoids cracking or wrinkling artifacts at the time of sectioning (Kushida et al, 1975). Sections can be easily cut with troughs due to the hydrophobic nature of MMA.…”

“…Cole and Sylces (1974) embedded animal tissues in GMA using ultraviolet polymerization. Later, Kushida et al (1975) water-miscible methacrylate. It has a low viscosity; it reacts with GMA and becomes an integral part of the polymerized system (Kushida et al, 1975).…”

“…Later, Kushida et al (1975) water-miscible methacrylate. It has a low viscosity; it reacts with GMA and becomes an integral part of the polymerized system (Kushida et al, 1975). This embedding method allowed application of enzyme and immunohistochemical techniques (Nagato et al, 1979(Nagato et al, , 1984Suzuki and Nagato, 1980).…”
