New delta arranged cell configuration of AC plasma display “DIA‐PDP” for high luminous efficiency and high resolution

Abstract: SUMMARYA new delta arranged cell-configured AC plasma display (DIA-PDP) was proposed, and a prototype 46-inch diagonal panel was fabricated. The DIA-PDP has two features. The first feature is an improved luminous efficiency. This is possible because nondischarge cells are formed in the panel and a black layer is formed on these cells. Since the light from the discharge cells does not reach the nondischarge cells, even if a black layer is provided on the nondischarge cells, the panel reflectance can be reduced … Show more

“…5) One of the most critical issues in current photonic devices is the improvement of the luminous efficiency and/or discharge efficiency. There have been several approaches so far for the optimization of cell structures in the field of plasma display panels (PDPs), such as a structure with a grooved dielectric layer between the electrodes, [6][7][8][9] a structure with vertically raised bus electrodes, 10) a structure with a long electrode gap, 11) a structure with a delta array of discharge cells, 12) and a structure with horizontal counter electrodes. 13) In the photonic device field, new structures fabricated on semiconductor, ceramic, and multilayer metal/ polymer substrates have been developed, 14,15) which have cross-sectional dimensions much smaller than those of current PDP cells.…”

“…A new ACPDP cell configuration referred to as DIA-PDP was developed to increase the vertical resolution of a panel without increasing the production cost. 5,6 The trio subpixel arrangement is popular in ACPDPs. This arrangement places the R, G, B subpixels horizontally in the same line.…”
