Neurodegenerative disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and Huntington’s disease, present a major health issue and financial burden for health care systems around the world. The impact of these diseases will further increase over the next decades due to increasing life expectancies. No cure is currently available for the treatment of these conditions; only drugs, which merely alleviate the symptoms. Oxidative stress has long been associated with neurodegeneration, whether as a cause or as part of the downstream results caused by other factors. Thus, the use of antioxidants to counter cellular oxidative stress within the nervous system has been suggested as a potential treatment option for neurological disorders. Over the last decade, significant research has focused on the potential use of natural antioxidants to target oxidative stress. However, clinical trial results have lacked success for the treatment of patients with neurological disorders. The knowledge that natural extracts show other positive molecular activities in addition to antioxidant activity, however, has led to further research of natural extracts for their potential use as prevention or treatment/management of neurodegenerative diseases. This review will cover several in vitro and in vivo research studies, as well as clinical trials, and highlight the potential of natural antioxidants.

Herbal medicines reflect a significant portion of new interest in alternative therapies and Ginkgo biloba (GB) features significantly throughout this regard. The GB concentrate and any of its constituents are already thoroughly researched in terms of its impact on behavioral, physiological and psychological consequences linked with neurological and vascular conditions. The purpose of this survey was for assessing the awareness of medical applications of Gingko Biloba amongst dental students. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with a self-administered questionnaire with 10 queries circulated among 100 dental students. The questionnaire assessed the awareness about Ginkgo bilobatherapy in medical applications, their anti-dementia properties, anti alziemer properties, anti-ageing activity, anti-inflammatory activity, and its mechanism of action and side effects. The responses were recorded and analysed.8% of the respondents were aware of the medical applications of Gingko Biloba therapy.6 % were aware of the anti-dementia activity of Gingko Biloba therapy,5% were aware of anti alziemer properties of Gingko Biloba therapy,6% were aware of anti-ageing properties of Gingko Biloba therapy, 5% were aware of anti-inflammatory properties of Gingko Biloba therapy, 5% were aware mechanism of action and side effects of Gingko Biloba therapy. The awareness about the usage of Ginkgo biloba therapy in medicinal applications is low among dental students. Increased awareness programs and sensitization and continuing dental education programs along with greater importance to the curricular modifications, can further enhance knowledge and awareness about Ginkgo biloba therapy.

The cause of persistent postural-perceptual dizziness (PPPD) is considered to be chronic dysfunction of the regulatory system for maintaining equilibrium in general and that of the vestibular system in particular, which causes a persistent sensation of dizziness and/or unsteadiness. The pathogenetic mechanisms of PPPD are associated with impaired adaptation to an acute vertigo or unsteadiness episode due to various causes (vestibular, lipothymic, or emotional). Patients severely experience PPPD, which often leads to avoidant behavior and even disability. The timely diagnosis of this disorder and the use of right treatment, including vestibular rehabilitation, antidepressants, and cognitive behavioral therapy, are of great importance. Currently developed new treatments for PPPD are highly therapeutically effective. Among the medicines, Ginkgo biloba extract has been shown to be effective in improving vestibular compensation.
