Negative Correlation between Serum Brain-derived Neurotrophic Factor Levels and Obesity Predictor Markers and Inflammation Levels in Females with Obesity

Abstract: BACKGROUND: Obesity has been widely associated with structural and functional changes in the brain, whereas inflammation is one of the potential mechanisms involved in these changes. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to prove the relationship between serum brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) levels and obesity predictor markers (body mass index and waist to hip ratio) and inflammation (interleukin-6 and Tumor Necrosis Factor-alpha) levels in females with obesity. METHODS: This study used a cross-sect… Show more

“…The data collection process was carried out by taking anthropometric measurements which included height using a Stadiometer (Seca Corporation, CHINO, California, USA) (Rejeki et al, 2021), body weight using a digital scale (OMRON HN-289, Osaka, JAPAN) (Sugiharto et al, 2022). The calculation of body mass index (BMI) uses the formula of body weight (kg) divided by height (m 2 ) (Raharjo et al, 2021). Blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) was measured using an OMRON Deluxe Model HEM-8712 BASIC digital blood pressure meter (Puspodari et al, 2022).…”

“…Bodyweight was measured using a digital scale (OMRON HN-289, Osaka, JAPAN) (Sugiharto et al, 2022). BMI is calculated using body weight (kg) divided by body height (m 2 ) (Raharjo et al, 2021). Measuring blood pressure using a digital sphygmomanometer (OMRON Model Deluxe HEM-8712 BASIC, JAPAN) on the non-dominant arm 3 times in a row with a 2-minute rest interval between the two measurements, then the average value of the three measurements was taken (Andarianto et al, 2022;Raharjo et al, 2021).…”
