Globalization, industrialization, technology and social media have affected the progress of translation studies from different sides. The present situation makes the need for translation is increasing day by day and the materials to be translated are growing more and more numerous. This research explores the needs of translations' materials related text types in bachelor degree at Universitas Negeri Padang that focused to the compatibility of the translation materials to the translation market. The questionnaires were used because the instrument and therefore the data were analyzed by using Likert Scale. Then, instructors, professionals who are involved within the translation agency were interviewed. To do so, the researcher designs this study as a descriptive research. Therefore, the results show that there are 15 lacks of text types in translation course at Universitas Negeri Padang. additionally, the purpose of departure during this study was that translations' materials related text types and therefore the translation market as two parties to translation service provision should be in close interaction so as to enhance the standard of translation class in higher-education institutions and therefore the quality of translation done on the market. The findings of this research are expected to provide valuable information for curriculum designers in developing learning materials focus on translation subject with the materials are related to the students' need in the translation market.

This study aims to identify and analyze students' needs for English textbooks that suit their needs. This research method uses a descriptive quantitative method. The results of this study indicate that: (a) all students agree that English is important for them to learn; (b) the existing English textbooks are less attractive for students to learn English; (c) the instructions in the book are not clear and difficult to understand; (d) students need TOEFL material to be studied in class; (e) there are not enough textbooks on campus for students to master the TOEFL; (f) exploration activities are required for students to master the four English skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing); (g) students need a TOEFL equivalent textbook in the mastery of English both spoken and written. In conclusion, students of the TRPL Polman Negeri Babel Study Program need textbooks that suit their needs. The need for English textbooks with TOEFL equivalence comes from the achievement of study objectives (CPL), TRPL, graduation requirements, and the world of work. The Impact of Translation Method and Shift on Translation Quality at Bilingual Textbooks of Physics, Mathematics and History

The first goal of the research was to figure out translation methods and shifts applied in translating bilingual textbooks of History, Mathematics, and Physics, Those bilingual textbooks were published by Quadra, Yramawidia, and Yudhisthira, used for grade seven in Medan. The second was to figure out the impact of translation methods and shifts which dominant on translation quality. The third was to recommend better bilingual textbooks to use based on the translation quality point of view. The research used a descriptive qualitative research method with a questionnaire, depth-interview, and observation on a pair of translation to collect the data. The data were analyzed with interactively and non-interactively. Based on the data analysis, the research finds that (1) the dominant shift on History textbook is unit shift while the dominant method is a free translation, the dominant shift on Physics is a unit shift and dominant method is a communicative translation, the dominant shift on Mathematics is structure shift and dominant method is communicative translation. The second finding is that the impact of the dominant translation shift and method on the History textbook is negative. At the same time, in Mathematics and Physics are positive. Third, the research; the researcher recommends bilingual textbooks of Mathematics and Physics to use based on translation quality point of view. The well bilingual textbooks can improve students’ language skills, while low translation quality influences bad development to students on learning the language.
