Objectives To describe dental prosthesis provision in the Brazilian public health service and report the performance of dental prosthesis procedures according to the Brazilian macroregions. Methods A structured interview was conducted with senior-level health professionals from each of the 18,114 oral health teams (OHT). The dependent variables were performance of removable prostheses and prosthesis procedures, including provision of fixed prostheses by OHT. Descriptive statistics were produced together with performing a cluster analysis using SPSS version 19.0. Results The manufacture of any type of prosthesis was done by a minority of OHT (43%). The most commonly provided types of dental prosthesis were removable full and partial dentures. Cluster 1 (teams that performed prosthesis procedures the most) was composed of a smaller number of teams (n = 5,531), and Cluster 2 (composed of teams that do not perform prosthetics or that perform them in small amounts) consisted of 12,583 teams. The geographic distribution of clusters reveals that the largest proportion of Cluster 1 teams is located in the Northeast (33.9%) and Southeast (33.6%). Conclusions A minority of OHT produce dental prostheses. There is an unequal geographical distribution of clusters.

Objective: to investigate the coverage of dental radiographic equipment provided by the Brazilian National Health System (SUS) in South Brazilian municipalities in 2016 and to investigate radiographic procedures in the municipalities that have this equipment. Methods: this was an ecological study conducted with data from the SUS Outpatient Information System (primary healthcare units with a dental surgery, radiographic equipment available and operational and X-rays being performed) and Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics data (population); the chi-square test and variance analysis were performed. Results: 984 items of dental radiographic equipment were identified in 479 out of 1,191 municipalities analyzed; 60% of the municipalities had no equipment, 68% had less than the recommended coverage, and 52% of the municipalities with equipment did not perform any radiography examination during 2016. Conclusion: less than half of the municipalities had radiographic dental equipment; among those that did have this equipment, half did not perform any procedures.

O objetivo do estudo foi analisar a conjuntura nacional quanto ao perfil epidemiológico do edentulismo, rede de atenção à saúde bucal e produção de próteses no âmbito do Sistema Único de Saúde. Foram utilizados dados epidemiológicos do Projeto SBBrasil 2010 e investigada a distribuição das Equipes de Saúde Bucal (ESB), Centros de Especialidades Odontológicas (CEOs), Laboratórios Regionais de Próteses Dentárias (LRPDs) e tratamento protético no SUS. Foram elaborados mapas para investigação da distribuição geográfica de variáveis do estudo e realizadas análises descritivas e correlacionais. A prevalência de perda dentária foi alta, especialmente entre mulheres, idosos e indivíduos de baixo nível de escolaridade e renda familiar, com destaque da região Norte. As necessidades de prótese foram superiores nas regiões Norte e Nordeste. Houve correlação entre o número de CEOs e LRPDs com tamanho populacional, índice de desenvolvimento humano e número de ESB (p<0,001; 0,082≤r≤0,422). As produções laboratoriais e ambulatoriais foram superiores no Sul, Sudeste e Nordeste. Apesar dos avanços proporcionados pela Política Nacional de Saúde Bucal, permanece o quadro de alta prevalência de perda dentária, necessidade de tratamento protético e desigualdades na oferta dos serviços.
