NCD Countdown 2030: worldwide trends in non-communicable disease mortality and progress towards Sustainable Development Goal target 3.4

Abstract: People in all but about 20 countries have a higher risk of dying prematurely from a noncommunicable disease (NCD) than from infectious and parasitic diseases, maternal and perinatal conditions, and nutritional deficiencies combined. The risk of dying from an NCD is highest in low-and middle-income countries, especially in sub-Saharan Africa for both sexes and in central Asia and eastern Europe for men. Progress towards Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target 3.4 is markedly different across countries. At cur… Show more

“…Cancer is one of the most serious diseases threatening the health of human beings . Almost 13 million cancer cases are diagnosed every year, and deaths are estimated to be 13.1 million in 2030 . With the development of cancer treatments, increasing numbers of researchers focus on using single oxygen ( 1 O 2 ), hydroxyl radical (•OH), and other reactive oxygen species (ROS) to induce the damage of proteins, membranes, and DNA at particular sites and ultimately to destroy tumor .…”

“…Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death globally (Roth et al, 2018;World Health Organization, 2020). Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) caused 71% of deaths worldwide (World Health Organization, 2016;Bennett et al, 2018). Most NCDs are associated with modifiable behavioural risk factors or the leading underlying causes of premature death, such as smoking habit, physical inactivity, an unhealthy diet, harmful use of alcohol consumption and obesity (World Health Organization, 2019).…”

“…Controlling hypertension is perhaps the single most effective and feasible clinical mechanism to reduce NCD death and disability by reducing cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and renal diseases. Hence, hypertension has been viewed as a major entry point for patients to the health care system for the prevention of NCD and is a major global target of the World Health Assembly, World Health Organization, and the philanthropic organization, Resolve To Save Lives …”
