“…Chitosan, as a natural polysaccharide, has played an important role in biomedicine with the advantages of excellent biodegradability and biosafety . Diverse types of drug-loaded micro-/nanoparticles based on chitosan are designed for targeted drug delivery, possessing the features of sustained drug release and pH responsiveness. Researchers have explored the use of chitosan microparticles loaded with drugs to treat colorectal cancer, showing good therapeutic effects. , The emulsification cross-linking method was introduced to fabricate chitosan microparticles (CMs) to load the drug. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) image of CMs is shown in Figure b.…”

“…Although a detailed understanding of PDEVs is not present, their applications in cancer research and treatment have attracted a great deal of attention. Notably, the PDEVs display good safety and biocompatibility for future clinical applications [ 71 , 72 ]. Several groups consistently revealed that PDEVs displayed remarkable killing effects on cancer cells without significantly affecting normal cell growth [ 73 , 74 ].…”

“…Nanoparticles have shown an encouraging and promising outlook for drug or gene delivery in IBD treatment [ 6 , 7 , 8 ]. The design of drug-loaded nanoparticles for delivery to the colon via oral administration has been used as a strategy to further amplify drug uptake into the inflamed tissue of the colon [ 1 , 9 ]. Nanoparticles have a great chance to reach and accumulate in inflamed tissues due to the loosening of tight junctional complexes [ 10 ].…”
