Nanoparticles: Emerging carriers for drug delivery

Abstract: The core objective of nanoparticles is to control and manipulate biomacromolecular constructs and supramolecular assemblies that are critical to living cells in order to improve the quality of human health. By definition, these constructs and assemblies are nanoscale and include entities such as drugs, proteins, DNA/RNA, viruses, cellular lipid bilayers, cellular receptor sites and antibody variable regions critical for immunology and are involved in events of nanoscale proportions. The emergence of such nanot… Show more

“…Some targeted drugs have also been developed as a specific treatment for cancer chemotherapy. 23 However, it is not enough to improve the specificity of chemotherapy drugs alone. On the one hand, because of the presence of several biological barriers, such as the mononuclear phagocyte system, 24 blood-brain barrier (BBB), 25,26 kidney filtration, 27,28 and so on, chemotherapy drugs have difficulty in reaching the tumor site and may not reach the effective concentration in some tissues.…”

“…The release of nanoparticles from formulations is governed by the separation of nanoparticles from the polymer matrix and their diffusion from the matrix. 27 Percentage of drug released from different films [F5, F6, F7 and control (drug incorporated films)]…”

“…Superparamagnetism is common in sufficiently small ferromagnetic or ferrimagnetic nanoparticles that have a single magnetic domain. These molecules are attracted to a magnetic field, but after the removal of this field they do not retain residual magnetism [31][32][33].…”
