Nanoadsorbents for wastewater treatment: next generation biotechnological solution

Abstract: Day by day, the water sources are increasingly being adulterated due to various reasons including the uncontrolled discharge of pollutants from the point and nonpoint sources. Therefore, it is a timely need to develop suitable, inexpensive and efficient treatment techniques for water purification. This review aims at evaluating different water treatment technologies, their basic principles, cost and suitability for pollutants' removal from wastewater. Among various water treatment technologies, adsorption tech… Show more

“…In the case of dye removal, magnetic nanoparticles have been proved to be proper candidates (Lohrasebi and Koslowski 2019). Nanoadsorbents such as silica gel, activated alumina, clays, limestone, chitosan, activated carbon, and zeolite are cost-effective and profitable options for eliminating the contaminating agents during water purification process (Ali et al 2020).…”

“…Zeolites are three-dimensional, crystalline microporous materials, having well-defined structures of voids and conduits of distinct size, which is easily accessible through pores of well-defined molecular dimensions that hold aluminum, silicon and oxygen in their normal framework [ 92 , 93 , 94 ]. Zeolites are found naturally as silicate minerals and can also be prepared synthetically as magnetically modified zeolite, and bio-zeolite, etc.…”

“…Removing salinity using agricultural wastes of the normal size and its natural material reached to 8%, by activating these wastes, the removal of salts reached to15% (Kim et al, 2017), while using these wastes as a carbon nanosize, the removal of salts reached to more than 99% (Butt, 2020). Nanoparticles are considered most significant and appropriate for water treatment and purification as they are highly reactive, have great surface area to volume ratio and have a good affinity for target substances and their extremely small size makes them most appropriate purification agents (Ali et al, 2020 andButt, 2020).…”
