Mykotische Infektionen psoriatischer Nägel/Mycotic Infections of Psoriatic Nails

Abstract: Zusammenfassung: Die Verfasserin untersuchte das Vorkommen mykotischer Infektionen von Psoriasis‐Nägeln. Summary: Mycotic infections of psoriatic nails were investigated. The cultural results were compared with the distribution of the pathogens found in pri… Show more

“…According to our results, Greek nail psoriasis patients are more susceptible to onychomycosis than their healthy compatriots, as the thus far recorded prevalence of onychomycosis in Greece ranges from 15.72% to 20% Two studies, also examining small samples of only nail psoriasis patients found similar results . Few studies, also examining only nail psoriasis patients found a substantially higher prevalence of onychomycosis among them; it is possible that the inclusion of patients currently being or having recently been treated with immunosuppressive agents can justify the noted difference . The majority of studies examining psoriasis patients with as well as without psoriatic nail lesions have reported a smaller prevalence of onychomycosis than the one found in our study .…”

[38][39][40] The majority of studies examining psoriasis patients with as well as without psoriatic nail lesions have reported a smaller prevalence of onychomycosis than the one found in our study. 8,13,[41][42][43][44][45][46][47] This discrepancy is possibly attributed to the fact that psoriasis patients with clinically healthy nails seem to be less susceptible to dermatophyte infections of the nail than the general Case, infection proved through mycological testing; n, natural number; Percentage, refers to the total of infection cases.…”

“…This result agree with many studies mainly done in Iran, such data being found in their region, where this fungus was the most widespread of all non-dermatophytic fungi (4,8,17,27) . Seven studies concluded that yeast and/or non-dermatophyte moulds were more frequently found in psoriatic nails compared to the pathogens found in nails of non-psoriatic patients (18,22,24,28,29,30) . Most authors impose the conclusion that yeast is more frequently isolated from nails damaged by psoriasis.…”
