Mycotoxin production of Alternaria strains isolated from Korean barley grains determined by LC-MS/MS

Abstract: Twenty-four Alternaria strains were isolated from barley grain samples. These strains were screened for the production of mycotoxins on rice medium using thin layer chromatography. All 24 strains produced at least one of the five mycotoxins (ALT, AOH, ATX-I, AME, and TeA). Three representative strains, namely EML-BLDF1-4, EML-BLDF1-14, and EML-BLDF1-18, were further analyzed using a new LC-MS/MS-based mycotoxin quantification method. This method was used to detect and quantify Alternaria mycotoxins. We used po… Show more

“…AOH, AME, TEN), 11,59 thus we conduct relevant exploratory experiments. The data presented in this study showed that high levels AME, AOH, ALT and TEN were detected in non-BITC treated A. alternata, similar to the report by T. T. T. Nguyen et al 60 AME and AOH produced a high intensity (271.0 and 257.0 m/z) in negative mode (ESI À ), and these results were consistent with the previous studies of A. A. Hildebrand et al (2015).…”

“…Alternaria fungi was also noted in grain from Hebei Province in China [34]. These fungi are widespread in wheat and barley grains in Asia and produce the main Alternaria mycotoxins, such as AOH, AME, and TeA [34,48]. In our study, a strong positive correlation between the contents of A. sect.…”

“…This suggests that the sample dilution already reduced the ME. Generally, AOH, AME, and TEA have high MEs [13,18,20,24,25,[30][31][32][33]36]. However, only the signal of AOH was considerably influenced by MEs in all matrices analyzed using the described method.…”
