IntrodnctioaMuscular dystrophy was lirst encountered to any extent in N. S.W. in 1959 (Walker, Hams, Farleigh, Setchell andLittlejohns, 1961) and a growth response to selenium was demonstrated in lambs on one property but not another. In 1960, a number of trials were carried out to see whether this disease could be prevented with selenium or vitamin E and whether a growth response to selenium could again be demonstrated in the lambs.
