Multiple Pulp Stones: A Case Report

Abstract: Pulp stones are usually found in the pulp chamber. Radiographically, they appear as radiopaque structures in the pulp chambers or root canals of individual teeth. Generalized pulp stones throughout the dentition are usually associated with systemic or genetic disorders of the dentine. This report presents an unusual case of a 13-year-old girl with generalized pulp stones with clinically normal crowns. The patient’s main complaint was a crossbite affecting all permanent canines. “…Similar conclusions were drawn in the study conducted by Ozkalayci et al who had also suggested that a careful radiographic workup and a multidisciplinary approach in patients with an increased prevalence of pulp stones are of utmost significance to predict the possibility of other associated systemic disorders that might have predisposed the subjects to have this kind of a subtle change, seen in the pulp tissues, which is a less critically acclaimed clinical entity. 43 …”

“…Pulp stones (PS) are discrete calcified masses found in the dental pulp, in the pulp tissue or become attached to or embedded into the dentine. [ 1 ] Structurally, pulp stones can be classified as true or false, the former being made of dentine and lined by odontoblasts, whereas false pulp stones are formed from degenerating cells of the pulp that gets mineralized. “…A correlation between the presence of denticles presence and bruxism or genetic disorders has been observed [7]. Denticles have been diagnosed in patients with dentin dysplasia, dentinogenesis imperfecta, Albright hereditary osteodystrophy, and Vander Woude syndrome [8,9]. Morover, Sayegh and Reed report that hypercalcemia, gout, and Po ocenie wystawionej na podstawie zdjęcia radiologicznego (ryc.…”

“…Dodatkowo stwierdzono korelację pomiędzy występowaniem zębiniaków a bruksizmem i chorobami o podłożu genetycznym [7]. Kamienie miazgowe diagnozowano u pacjentów z zespołami genetycznymi, takimi jak: dysplazja zębiny, dentinogenesis imperfecta, dziedziczna osteodystrofia Albrighta czy syndrom Vander Woude [8,9]. Natomiast Sayegh i Reed podają, że hiperkalcemia, dna moczanowa i kamica nerkowa mogą być czynnikami predysponującymi do pojawienia się zębiniaków [10].…”
