Multimedia Selective Encryption by Means of Randomized Arithmetic Coding

Abstract: We propose a novel multimedia security framework based on a modification of the arithmetic coder, which is used by most international image and video coding standards as entropy coding stage. In particular, we introduce a randomized arithmetic coding paradigm, which achieves encryption by inserting some randomization in the arithmetic coding procedure; notably, and unlike previous works on encryption by arithmetic coding, this is done at no expense in terms of coding efficiency. The proposed technique can be ap… Show more

“…Before distribution, the content is encrypted by the content provider and the decryption key is provided only to those users who have permission to access the legitimate copies of the content. The encrypted content is useless to a pirate without an appropriate key [Grangetto et al, 2006]. Despite the fact that such techniques can protect the multimedia contents during their transmission, they cannot prevent a user from re-distributing the data illegally once they have been received and decrypted.…”

“…Since only the interval magnitude is important for encoding the compression efficiency remains unchanged. This may work as whole or selective encryption based on the layers or resolution levels to encrypt [34 ].…”

“…At the same time we must make the hackers not to get our information. The cryptosystem gives a support to the VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) and in turn it finds an application in DAB (Digital Audio Broadcasting) and DVB (Digital Video Broadcasting) [4]. These days, more expert cryptosystems have developed from the two basic classifications: the Symmetric Key Cryptography (SKC) and the Public Key Cryptography (PKC).…”
