Multi-Well Walkaway-VSP to Resolve Structural Uncertainty in the Haynesville Shale Play

Abstract: Drilling horizontally within shale zones, in the presence of structural complexities, remains a major challenge. A multi-well walkaway-VSP survey was used to determine the correct structural interpretation between two pilot boreholes having ~500 ft of depth mis-tie. Interpretation of the inter-well VSP image revealed an antithetic fault. Boreholes trajectories were revised to successfully drill horizontal wells within the shale zone from both pilots.
