Transpiration in cold-limited areas is restricted by low soil temperature. However, little is known about the influence of soil warming on tree transpiration under a water logged and cold soil conditions. We aimed to test the hypothesis that an increase in soil temperature in the absence of water stress will lead to increased sap flow of red birch (Betula albosinensis) in a subalpine wetland. Sap flow and relevant environmental data were measured for B. albosinensis in a subalpine wetland in the edge of northeast Qinghai-Tibet Plateau from 2013 to 2016. The cooling and controlling experiments were also conducted in the lab from June to July in 2017. The resultsshowed that meteorological parameters, as well as soil temperature, are important limiting factors for tree transpiration. It was governed by meteorological factors throughout the growing season, whereas we only found a significant increase of sap flow upon soil warming in the mid-growing season, which may be attributed to warm-induced hydraulic conductivity. In the early growing season, no warming effect was observed on sap flow. We then concluded that whole-tree water use may increase with increasing soil temperature and similar precipitation and thus alter the local water balance. These results are essential to understand the response of hydrological processes to future climate warming.

A B S T R A C TIn the Sub-middle São Francisco Valley, the main controlling factors of 'Caatinga' and irrigated sugarcane ETr were investigated in this study. Between 2015 and 2016, environmental variables were measured by sensors coupled to two micrometeorological towers, one in the preserved 'Caatinga' and the other in an irrigated sugarcane crop. Soil moisture and vegetation cover index were also evaluated and biometric data were obtained only in the sugarcane. Actual evapotranspiration was determined based on the latent heat flux, by the energy balance method. Therefore, the ratio between actual and reference evapotranspiration was calculated. Response variables were formed by the actual evapotranspiration and by its ratio with the reference evapotranspiration. Explanatory variables included growth and environmental data. Multicollinearity, canonical and track analyses were applied. It was verified that only the environmental variables exhibited correlation with the actual evapotranspiration and its ratio with the reference evapotranspiration. In the 'Caatinga' , soil moisture directly and indirectly influenced ETr, as the global solar radiation altered the response of actual evapotranspiration to the atmospheric demand. In sugarcane, ETr was directly and indirectly controlled by the intercepted photosynthetically active radiation and soil temperature, and the latter one also affected the ratio between actual and reference evapotranspiration. Entre os anos 2015 e 2016, variáveis ambientais foram medidas por sensores acoplados a duas torres micrometeorológicas, uma na Caatinga preservada e outra em um cultivo de cana-de-açúcar irrigada. A umidade do solo e o índice de cobertura vegetal também foram avaliados, e dados biométricos obtidos apenas na cana-de-açúcar. A evapotranspiração real foi determinada com base no fluxo de calor latente, pelo método do balanço de energia. Logo, calculou-se a razão entre a evapotranspiração real e de referência. As variáveis respostas foram compostas pela evapotranspiração real e por sua razão com a evapotranspiração de referência; já as variáveis explicativas incluíram os dados de crescimento e ambientais. Análises de multicolinearidade, canônica e de trilha foram aplicadas. Verificou-se que apenas as variáveis ambientais exibiram correlação com a evapotranspiração real e sua razão com a evapotranspiração de referência. Na Caatinga, a umidade do solo influenciou de modo direto e indireto na ETr, da mesma forma que a radiação solar global alterou a resposta da evapotranspiração real à demanda atmosférica. Water resources management is nowadays a significant stake for the world. However, missing or bad quality of the hydro-climatic historical data available of the studied area makes sometimes hydrological studies difficult. Generally, conceptual rain-flow models are designed to bring an appropriate answer with the correction of gaps and prediction of the flows. Historical hydro-climatic data of the Ity station, located on Cavally River, contain gaps which must be bridged. This study aims to establish a rainfall-runoff model through artificial neural networks for filling the gaps into the flow data series of the hydrometric station of Ity on the watershed of Cavally River. A multi-layer perceptron of feed forwards with two entries (monthly average rain and evapotranspiration) and an exit (flows) was established with flow evapotranspiration data. Comparison of the criteria of performance of the various architectures of the neural network model showed that architecture 2-3-1 gives best results. This architecture provides Nash coefficients of 75.79% and correlation linear coefficient of 95.64% for the calibration and Nash coefficients of 73.32% and correlation linear coefficient of 98.33% for the validation. The correlations between simulated flows and observed flows are strong. The correlation coefficients are 83.89% and 83.08% respectively for the calibration and validation.
