Despite the high risks reflected from the annual road traffic casualties, motorcycles remain a popular mode of transport in Malaysia due to economic and ease-of-use factors. Therefore, various parties need to play their roles, make proper plans and take actions to accommodate the needs of the motorcyclists in Malaysia. Consequently, some fundamental basis on how motorcyclists interact with the road environment and other drivers was needed. For this reason, this study was to examine and assess motorcyclist perception towards safe riding regarding the road environments and other drivers’ attitude and behaviour. A survey by distributing questionnaires among motorcyclists in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah was conducted and was analysed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) tools. It found that most motorcyclists, regardless of their demographic and riding background, perceive that poor road conditions such as road surface defects and slippery roads highly affect their safe motorcycling. Besides that, there was no statistically significant difference between motorcyclists’ perceptions of positive and negative attitudes and behaviour. These findings also guide the development of any road safety initiatives and strategies, as well as for future studies specifically related to motorcycle concerns.

There are more and more motorcycles on the roads. This can be seen, for example, on the basis of statistical data from the Central Statistical Office, where newly registered two-wheelers are presented. Based on the data, it can be seen that there are more and more newly registered motorcycles every year and that there are many road accidents involving two-wheelers. According to data provided by the WHO, as many as 28% of fatalities in road accidents are motorcycle drivers [10]. The article below presents a review of the literature related to motorcycle crash tests and the dummies used for the tests. The work presents the most important standard that regulates how motorcycle crash tests are performed. The main purpose of the article is to draw attention to the problem of safety of motorcycle users. The text describes various crash tests of two-wheelers and stands used for testing motorcycles. The work presents a dummy specially designed for crash tests involving motorcycles. Differences between this dummy and other dummies used have also been described. The paper discusses the literature and describes research related to crash tests.

The purpose of this work is to study the kinematics and injury of child pillion passenger from motorcycle-to-car crash tests. Two crash tests for rear and front child pillions were set up. The kinematics of dummies were analysed from accelerometer data and high speed camera pictures. The kinematics and injury mechanisms of the child passenger from both tests are significantly different. For the rear child pillion test, the rider impacted the car before the child passenger. Both rider and child were ejected upward. The child’s head motion was curvilinear towards the car structure. This results in severe head injury due to high HIC. The child sitting at front translated in the longitudinal axis of the motorcycle and impacted the car before the rider. The child’s torso strongly hit to the handlebar first then head hit the car. This results in low value of HIC. The child’s upper-body including neck were compressed between the car and the rider’s torso leading to high risk of severe thorax and neck injuries. The results reveal that the child sitting behind the rider has higher risk of severe head injury while the child sitting before the rider has higher risk of thorax and neck injuries.
