“…Specifically, sex and BMI were significantly associated with fruit and vegetable consumption (males and those with a higher BMI ate less fruits and vegetables), but grade and race were not. Further, although Verstuyf et al (2016) found mean level differences by weight status in motivation and eating behaviors, their model regarding motivation and healthy behaviors operated similarly regardless of age. Yet, even small differences might be meaningful, and understanding the collective of differences is important in tailoring optimal intervention programs.…”

“…Girls also tend to increase their dieting behaviors from early adolescence to late adolescence as compared to boys (von Soest & Wichstrom, 2009). In addition, binge eating is positively associated with BMI (Laghi, Pomplili, Baumgartner, & Baiocco, 2015), and adolescents with overweight or obesity may have less internal motivation to engage in healthy behaviors (Hwang & Kim, 2013;Verstuyf, Vansteenkiste, Soetens, & Soenens, 2016). Parents also tend to encourage children, particularly girls, who have higher BMIs to diet (Armstrong, Carmody, & Janicke, 2014).…”

“…These social and clinical factors, when associated with crack use, can cause even further damage to their nutritional status. Since crack use is associated with complex social issues,43 these individuals could benefit from lifestyle intervention programs, which have had positive results in the obese, diabetics, and binge eaters 44-47…”
