Morphological filters for functional assessment of roundness profiles

Abstract: Abstract. Filtration techniques are useful tools of analysing roundness profiles. The 2RC filter and Gaussian filter are commonly used to assess peripheral undulations of the roundness data. However they cannot do every aspect of functional prediction. Morphological filters are employed to characterise roundness profiles for functional assessment. Traditional computation methods for morphological filters are limited to planar surfaces and unable to be extended to roundness measurement. A novel method based on … Show more

“…In equation (19), w decreases non-linearity as the number of iterations increases, which makes the algorithm have a strong global search ability in the initial stage. After traversing the entire search space quickly, the local search ability is continuously enhanced, and the search is performed within the possible optimal solution neighborhood.…”

“…Therefore, research into and application of the convex hull theory have always been hot topics in the field of metrology and detection. Lou et al [19] applied the convex hull theory to morphological filtering to operate the a precision mechanical parts surface. Lee [20] presented a modified convex-hull edge method which significantly enhanced its computational efficiency.…”

“…Jiang et al proposed a novel morphological method based on the alpha shape, which utilized the theoretical link between the alpha hull and the morphological closing and opening operations [23]. Lou et al developed a feasible supporting computational method of using alpha shape theory for roundness evaluation employing morphological filters as a means of characterizing round comp onents [24].…”
