A high-accuracy roundness measurement for cylindrical components by a morphological filter considering eccentricity, probe offset, tip head radius and tilt error

Abstract: A morphological filter is proposed to obtain a highaccuracy roundness measurement based on the fourparameter roundness measurement model, which takes into account eccentricity, probe offset, probe tip head radius and tilt error. This paper analyses the sample angle deviations caused by the four systematic errors to design a morphological filter based on the distribution of the sample angle. The effectiveness of the proposed method is verified through simulations and experiments performed with a roundness measu… Show more

“…Many researchers [8,26,27] have explored many methods to remove the installation eccentricity error of the artifact, the eccentricity error can be eliminated by removing the first harmonic, thus greatly improving the measurement accuracy [8,28]. Comparing figures 9 and 10, after removing the first harmonic from the eccentricity of 10 µm to 0.1 µm, the error reaches the sub-nanometer.…”

“…The single-probe method is another simple and direct method with a displacement probe and high-precision rotary platform [6,7]. Except for the accuracy of the probe, the rotation error of the rotary platform should be as small as possible to ensure that all measured displacements begin from the rotation axis.…”

“…Caja et al [22] described a method for evaluating the geometrical parameters, such as the radius and roundness error, of a partial arc for any circular feature based on digital images taken using optical measuring machines. To achieve high-accuracy roundness measurement, a four-parameter roundness measurement model and a morphological filter for data processing were studied [23]. Chiabert et al [24] compared the performance of a probabilistic method with those of conventional least-squares methods in estimating different roundness errors along with the associated uncertainty.…”
