Morphological and AFLP markers for describing genetic relationships among white-oat genotypes

Abstract: The use of different genetic dissimilarity indicators can help in both the selection of crop improvement strategies and as artificial crosses. The objectives of this work were to estimate the genetic dissimilarity among seven oat genotypes (Avena sativa L.) through molecular (dg) and morphological (dm) markers. Data were obtained from two experiments carried out in Capão do Leão County, RS, Brazil, in 2000. The estimated correlation coefficient (r = 0.33) indicated a low association between dg and dm estimates… Show more

“…The cophenetic correlation coefficients were high to intermediate in all the cases: Dg-pedigree (0.98); Dg-morphological (0.89); Dg-molecular AFLP (0.88), and Dg-morphological + AFLP (0.61), indicating that the data matrix are represented by the dendogram with efficiency. These results were similar to those obtained in oats (Benin et al, 2008) and wheat (Bertan et al, 2009). Only cophenetic correlation values above 0.80 indicated a good fit between the original distance matrices and graphical distances.…”

“…Results of molecular analysis of the collection of old oat cultivars were complemented by morphological description. Similar, comprehensive approach to the problem was presented by Benin et al (2008) and Nowosielska and Nowosielski (2009).…”

“…Performing molecular characterization of collections of corn, Netto et al (2004) found a total of 207 AFLP loci in 58 genotypes using six primer combinations, with an average of 34.5 loci per combination. A total of 166 loci, of which 154 were polymorphic, were found in a genetic diversity study of eight oat individuals using seven primer combinations (Benin et al, 2008).…”
