Moringa Oleifera Lam. Leaves Extract Reduces Human T-Cell Hyporesponsiveness and Dna Damage Induced by Oxidative Stress

Abstract: Chronic inflammatory conditions lead to the generation of excessive reactive oxygen species which can give rise to T cell hyporesponsiveness. Thus there has been an interest to target these mediators with nutrients which have anti-oxidant properties. Accordingly Moringa oleifera extract has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties. We have now examined the effects of Moringa oleifera Lam. on the depressed human T-cell responses, (IL-2 and IL-2 mRNA production) and DNA damage (quantif… Show more

“…Some of the phytochemical contents of M. oleifera were found to be different in each part of the plant, as shown in Table 2 [11], [22], [23], [24], [25], [26], [27], [28], [29]. Table 3 shows the qualitative phytochemical screening result of both aqueous and ethanol extract of M. oliefera leaves [28].…”

“…It is also important to note that the phytochemical constituent has a role in determining the antibacterial activities of the leaf extract [17], [18]. In another study using qualitative and quantitative phytochemical analysis, M. oleifera leaf extract also contains tannins, saponins, phenols, alkaloids, and phlobatannins [26].…”

“…However, few studies have focused on the response of immunocytes to MO. Kooltheat et al found that MO could eliminate the production of monocyte-derived macrophage factors, like tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-α), interleukin (IL)-6 and IL-8 (Kooltheat et al, 2014(Kooltheat et al, , 2017. Notably, the decrease in these factors was evident at both mRNA and protein levels.…”
