Morin (MR) is an anticancer drug present in fruits and Chinese herbs. Fe 3 O 4 magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs) coated on 3-aminopropyl triethoxysilane (APTES) were synthesized (MNPs-APTES) as carriers for MR. The characterization of drug delivery system was confirmed by Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR), Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), dynamic light scattering (DLS), and vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM). The adsorbed APTES on the magnetite surface (MNPs-APTES) was examined by FTIR. The TEM image showed that the average particle size is obtained to be about 26.7 nm for MNPs-APTES. The MR loading and release behavior of MNPs-APTES were studied and the results showed that up to 60% of the adsorbed drug was released within 4 h. In summary, the MNPs-APTES nanocarriers are based on the results, promising for targeted morin drug delivery.

Objective: In this study, we investigated whether morin, a natural flavonoid, could able to inhibit ultraviolet B (UVB)-induced carcinogenesis in the skin of Swiss albino mice. Methods:The mice were exposed to UVB radiation (180 mJ/cm 2 ) on weekly thrice for 30 weeks, and morin was administered intraperitoneal and topical application 1 h before UVB exposure. UVB radiation induces the overexpression of cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), and Bcl-2 genes. Results:Morin significantly prevented UVB-induced activation of COX-2, iNOS, VEGF, TGF-β, and Bcl-2 expression in mouse skin. Thrombospondin-1 (TSP), a novel endogenous factor, inhibits angiogenesis and inflammation. Conclusion:The present study illustrates that the protective effect of morin against UVB-induced carcinogenesis may be modulated through activation of TSP-1 in UVB-exposed Swiss albino mice.

We researched the preventive and therapeutic activities of the extract of Ramulus Mori (ERM) to observe its effects on collagen-induced arthritis (CIA) in mice and to explore the mechanisms of ERM in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). We examined the in vitro levels of tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) released in macrophages and of interferon (IFN)-γ and interleukin (IL)-4 released in splenocytes. For in vivo experiments, we randomly divided 24 mice into four groups, after type II collagen (CII) injections and at euthanization. The levels of plasma cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-17), rheumatoid factor (RF; IgG, IgM), and anti-CII antibody were measured using ELISA kits. was recorded once a week for 4 weeks. Sections of tissues from the knee joints were stained with hematoxylin and eosin (H&E) and Masson trichrome (MT) after the mice with CIA were euthanized. ERM reduced the levels of TNF-α in macrophages and IFN-γ in spleen cells, decreased AI scores, and improved inflammation of paw joints (PJ). ERM also suppressed the number of immunocytes in peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and PJ, and reduced the levels of cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-17), RF, and anti-CII antibody in the sera. TNF-α and Th1 cells play very important roles in the formation and development of RA. ERM and methotrexate notably decreased the induction of RA in the CIA mice model by reducing the levels of inflammatory cytokines and RF in the sera and suppressing the number of immunocytes among PBMCs and PJ.
