Molecularly imprinted polymers on a silica surface for the adsorption of tobacco‐specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke

Abstract: Tobacco-specific nitrosamines are one of the most important groups of carcinogens in tobacco products. Using adsorbents as filter additives is an effective way to reduce tobacco-specific nitrosamines in cigarette smoke. Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) using nicotinamide as template were grafted on the silica gel surface to obtain MIP@SiO2 and employed as filter additives to absorb tobacco-specific nitrosamines in mainstream cigarette smoke. Four milligrams of MIP@SiO2 per cigarette was added to the inter… Show more

“…Then it remained constant for 3.0 min. Finally, the mobile phase was returned to the initial condition for 0.5 min and held for 5.5 min so that the system could be re-equilibrated before the next injection. The flow rate was 0.4 mL/min and the total analysis time was 15.0 min.…”

“…Tobacco-specific N-nitrosamines (TSNAs) are well-known harmful components in tobacco and related products, of which N-nitrosoanabasine (NAB), N-nitrosoanatabine (NAT), 4-(methylnitrosamino)-1-(3-pyridyl)-1-butanone (NNK) and N-nitrosonornicotine (NNN) have been the most studied [1][2][3][4][5]. According to the International Agency for Research on complex mixtures [4,22,23].…”

“…[7] Recently, asilica gel coated with tobacco-specific nitrosamines (TSNAs)i mprinted polymer (SiO 2 /MIP) was applied successfully for the fabrication of improved cigarette filters. [8] Filters with SiO 2 /MIP lowered the concentration of different TSNAs in cigarette smoke to 41-18% of the values typical for most cigarettes;t hus the need for chemosensors for these toxins.T oward this end, we have herein devised achemosensor for the selective determination of Pro-NOi nf ood products of animal origin. We deposited af ilm of an MIP imprinted with Pro-NO on ap latinumd isk electrode and ag old film electrode of aq uartz crystal resonator (Au-QCR).…”

“…The molecular imprinting technique is a generic method for the production of tailor‐made materials with “molecular memory” that carry out the polymerization of suitable functional monomers in the presence of the desired molecule (template) . The monomers and templates are preorganized by various intermolecular interactions, such as hydrogen bonding, hydrophobic interactions, van der Waals forces, and electrostatic interactions.…”
