“…In contrast, there have been several reports of widespread M. bovis infection in Mexican cattle 1821,23,32,41. In some regions of Mexico, up to 13% of dairy herds are reported to be infected with M. bovis 42 and up to 30% of milk produced in Mexico is not pasteurized 19.…”

“…In developed countries, such as Australia, Canada, the USA and New Zealand have either eradicated the disease or very nearly eradicated it, with wild fauna reservoirs preventing total eradication [ 6 ]. In Mexico, however, bTB is endemic, and although 85.8% of the national territory shows a prevalence under 0.5% [ 7 ], high milk production regions have prevalences as high as 16% [ 8 ].…”

“…Because of its simplicity, RAPD is usually used for genotyping organisms, as a PCR-based fingerprinting method [ 210 ]. It was initially established for the typing of M. tuberculosis isolates, as described previously [ 211 ]. However, it is rarely used for M. bovis because of poor results in terms of discrimination ability [ 207 , 212 ].…”
