Molecular Analyses of Microbial Activities Involved in Bioremediation

Abstract: Microorganisms play essential roles in nutrient cycles, interact with all living organisms and form bedrock of sustainable ecosystems. For implementation of bioremediation strategies it is essential that we understand how the environment (oxygen, water, nutrients, temperature and pH) modulates microbial activities. Microbial activities like oxidation, reduction, binding, immobilization, volatization, or transformation are carried out by enzymes such as oxidases, reductases, oxygenases and many more. Only few e… Show more

“…Biodegradative oxygenases are the main focus of OxDBases because of their importance in the degradation of persistent organic molecules. OxDBase is a powerful tool applicable to bioremediation studies, providing knowledge of oxygenases-catalyzed reactions and aiding in the understanding of degradation processes involved in bioremediation [81,82]. Biodegradation gene sequences and data on their transcription and regulation can be found in Bionemo [76].…”

“…Bioconversion and biodegradation of persistent and toxic xenobiotics (Desai et al, 2010;Bao et al, 2017) compounds catalyzed by oxygenases decrease the compound sustainability and toxicity in the environment (Kües, 2015;Kondo, 2017). Therefore, OxDBase is very helpful in acknowledging the degradation processes involved in bioremediation (Shah et al, 2012). The transcriptional characterization of genes responsible for the biodegradation and biodissimilation of a particular compound has great significance in proposing molecular methodologies.…”

“…Oxidation is responsible for aromatic ring cleavage breaking down the persistent organic compounds of xeno pesticides (Westcott and Cessna, 2018). OxDBase database also aids the biodegradation network by providing information of oxygenase catalyzed reactions (Shah et al, 2012). Biodegradation and bioconversion of recalcitrant compounds by oxygenases make the bioremediation possible (Sharma et al, 2018).…”
