MOF-derived hierarchical CoP nanoflakes anchored on vertically erected graphene scaffolds as self-supported and flexible hosts for lithium–sulfur batteries

Abstract: A self-supported and binder-free CoP@G/CC-S cathode affording high conductivity, a suppressed shuttle effect and favorable mechanical robustness enables high-performance flexible Li–S batteries for practical applications.

“…[ 13 ] Decorating electrocatalysts in favor of robust polysulfide regulation capability within the framework of mesoporous carbon is expected to synergistically address a multitude of problems at the cathode side. Various types of electrocatalysts, such as metal oxides/nitrides/sulfides/phosphides [ 14 – 17 ] and their heterostructures, [ 18 21 ] have been developed in due course. Of note, metals (e.g., Fe, Co, Ni) supported on carbons have demonstrated high effectiveness toward polysulfide conversion due to their high surface free energy and abundant active sites.…”

“…According to the Sand's time model [23,24], introducing 3D lithium host is a valid method to suppress the dendritic structure by decreasing the current density. Carbon cloth, as a typical 3D Li host, presents advantages of large surface area, innate flexibility, and stable free-standing structure [25]. Liu et al [26] demonstrated that a 3D hollow carbon fiber (3D-HCF) with high electroactive surface area can deliver long lifespan over 1200 h at 1 mA cm À2 .…”

“…Generally, MOF/graphene derived metal phosphides are prepared through a phosphorization process in a tube furnace by using MOF/graphene or the metal/oxide derived from it as a precursor and NaH 2 PO 2 as a phosphorus source. 91,98,111,112,[162][163][164][165][166][167][168][169][170] Typically, the precursor and NaH 2 PO 2 are placed in two separate positions in a porcelain boat with NaH 2 PO 2 at the upstream side. Then the samples are heated to a certain temperature under an inert gas ow.…”

“…Polar metal compound (e.g., oxide, sulde, and phosphide) based sulfur hosts derived from MOF/graphene nanocomposites were extensively studied due to their strong adsorption of polysuldes on polar surfaces. 107,162,[230][231][232] For example, rGO wrapped mesoporous MoO 2 microrods derived from Mo-MOFs were synthesized and used as the sulfur host in LSBs. The metallic MoO 2 /rGO composite not only enhanced the transport of electrons and Li + diffusion, but also restricted the dissolution and shuttling of polysuldes.…”
